Low Calorie Powdered Sugar Icing (Fat Free!)

Powdered sugar icing is a classic. Did you know that you can use Splenda? You can!

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup of Splenda
  • 2 Tbsp. of cornstarch
  • 4 tsp. of non-fat milk

Directions

  1. Blend the Splenda and cornstarch in a blender until it becomes a powder consistency.
  2. Remove and pour into a medium mixing bowl.
  3. Slowly add non-fat milk. (It usually takes 4 tsp of non-fat milk, but feel free to add more or less, depending upon what consistency you’re looking for)

Note: If you’re concerned about it tasting too ‘sugar-free’, then simply substitute half of the Splenda with real powdered sugar.

    Hi Sarah -

So sorry I am just seeing this now! I see you are from the UK…cornflour is equivalent to what we call ‘corn starch’ in the US.

Hi, for the low calorie powered sugar icing, I was just wondering whether corn starch is the same as cornflour? As I can’t seem to find cornstarch in my local supermarket? Thanks

Anna – eating low calorie almost always requires omitting unhealthy fats such as butter or full fat sour cream. The frostings still taste great and are simply a different kind than higher calorie and unhealthy versions. If you can find a low calorie frosting recipe with butter, then please do share with us! :)

I just made the low calorie cream cheese frosting again this evening but since I only had about 2 oz of cream cheese, I used that 2 oz with about 2 oz of cool whip and it still tasted pretty “cream cheesey”. So, you can cut back on FF cream cheese even more, if you’d like!

I LOVE the low calorie peanut butter frosting with cool whip and low-fat peanut butter. It’s a light, yet rich tasting frosting. Really good. It goes really good on top of ‘No Pudge’ brownies (you can buy the mix at the grocery store). This is my new favorite dessert
