Yummy Low Calorie Cereals That Are Actually Good For You!

If you’re like me, you love to have a big breakfast. After all, it is the most important meal of the day and research has shown that a high calorie breakfast can actually benefit those trying to lose weight. I always aim to eat around 400-450 calories as I have my daily workout right after breakfast. I like to get in as much food as possible, within my limit. Lucky Charms? Yeah, they’re certainly a low calorie breakfast idea, but c’mon! It’s so important to make every calorie count.

Here are my favorite  low calorie breakfast cereals that are actually healthy; don’t worry they taste great, too! And, if you’re in a pinch for a low calorie snack idea, these cereals always work well as a quick fix.

Kashi GOLEAN Crunch! Honey Almond Flax

This is a super filling cereal that is packed with protein and fiber. It will keep you feeling full until lunch-time. While one serving size is 1 cup for 200 calories, you have to remember that you’re getting 9g of protein and 8g fiber. Add 1/2 cup of fat-free milk and some sliced bananas or strawberries and you’ve got a hearty and healthy breakfast in a bowl. If 200 calories seems like too much, cut back to 3/4 of a cup or try out Kashi’s plain GOLEAN Crunch, which has 140 calories a cup.

Nutrition at a glance:

  • 200 calories (1 cup)
  • 15g of whole grains
  • 500mg Omega-3
  • 8g fiber
  • 9g protein

Newman’s Own Sweet Enough Flakes’ Strawberries Cereal

I love eating organic, so therefore, I love Newman’s. If you’re not into sickening sweet breakfast cereal, than you definitely want to try out a flavor from their “Sweet Enough” line. It’s low calorie, fat-free and one 3/4 cup serving contains 50% of the daily recommend value for iron.

An added bonus? There are just seven ingredients in this pre-packaged breakfast; trust me – so hard to find that these days! Ingredients: Milled Rice, Rolled Wheat, Sugar, Strawberries*, Salt, Barley Malt, Mixed Tocopherols (Vitamin E) Added For Freshness.

Because this cereal is low on fiber and protein, I recommend also eating a sliced apple and maybe a few egg whites for a well-rounded, healthy and low-calorie breakfast.

Nutrition at a glance:

  • 110 calories (3/4 cup)
  • 2g fiber
  • 2g protein

Bear Naked Fit – Triple Berry Crunch

Low calorie granola? Well, it’s hard to find, that’s for sure. This granola has 140 calories for it’s recommended 1/4 cup serving. That may not seem like a lot, but I measure mine out and while it looks like an itty bitty serving, it is really filling. Just combine this granola with some fruit and eat some protein on the side and you’ll be energized and ready to start your day. I also love this as a low calorie dessert with sliced berries! It’s relatively low in sugar (4g) for a granola, so enjoy!

Nutrition at a glance:

  • 140 calories (1/4 cup)
  • 3g fiber
  • 4g protein
